When And Where To Shop For Christmas

Most budget conscious shoppers will tell you that the absolute worse time to shop for inexpensive Christmas items is during the Christmas season. This is true for virtually everything from food to gifts and decorations. There are many options for shopping for Christmas supplies and gifts that will help you avoid the last minute department store prices and will allow you to enjoy an inexpensive Christmas that looks like you spent a fortune.

Buy In Advance

While this may seem obvious it cannot be stressed enough. Good Christmas shoppers know that the time to start shopping for Christmas next year is the day after Christmas this year. Stores start reducing seasonal merchandise even before Christmas day, so be sure to keep an eye out for items that are discounted. Remember that usually the most expensive items are the ones that are left after the Christmas rush so it is very possible to get extremely expensive decorations and other Christmas items at a reasonable or even deeply discounted price during these seasonal sales.

Buying in advance also gives you options for the brand names, models and other options that you may not have if you wait until Christmas week to start Christmas shopping. Watch for sales throughout the year that offer better prices than they would offer at the Christmas season. Electronics including computers, stereos, cell phones and television sets are often on sale at deeper discounts through the summer and spring months than they are in the fall and winter months.

Christmas Shopping Shop Online

Christmas shopping online is a great way to save money and time, as you can complete your Christmas shopping right from your home. There are some things to keep in mind when shopping online and they include:

1. Remember to consider shipping costs if you are buying online. Unless the site clearly states that shipping is included the fees are usually over and above the price of the item. Sometimes the shipping costs exceed the cost of the item so be sure to read the complete sales agreement before agreeing to buy or sending any billing information.

2. Know if there are any customs or import fees for the item. Some items including tobacco, alcohol, some computer equipment and other items may be subject to heavy import or customs fees or taxes. The buyer is aways responsible for these additional charges unless a prior arrangement is made with the shipper.

3. Use secure sites. Know the seller is a reputable individual and is not trying to get your money without shipping the goods. Be sure to check for any feedback or comments on the site and make sure the seller has some actual physical contact number or address if you are buying expensive items. In addition be careful giving out credit card information until you are sure the individual is a reputable company.

4. Stick to companies and businesses in the top page of the search engines. These are companies and businesses that either pay to be on the first page or are used frequently by other people. Businesses listed on the last pages of a search engine are either very unpopular sites or are just starting in business.

5. Order well in advance. Remember that online purchases have to be processed, boxed and shipped. If you purchase well in advance there won't be any stress with arrival or possible shortages of stock as the Christmas season approaches.

Watch For Sales And Use Coupons

Watch for sales year round and plan to attend. In addition watch for coupons from various stores throughout the year and take advantage of them when they are offered. It is estimated by marketing groups that only 23% of consumers use coupons but those that do use them cut their shopping expenses by as much as 15% on average. Internet coupons are now available for many products that just require a quick download and printing of the coupon for items that are not just grocery or food related.
